Stars Extend a Helping Hand to Taiwan Disaster Victims

Taiwan has been suffering from different kinds of disasters as of late, including the TransAsia Airways crash in Penghu on July 23, followed by the gas explosion in Kaohsiung which left 26 people dead and 300 more injured. In lieu to these disasters, stars such as Andy Lau, Show Luo and others have extended their generosity toward the victims.

Many celebrities stepped forward to help the victims through donations and support, one of them being the renowned Hong Kong singer Andy Lau. He has posted a photo with sayings of encouragement that he copied by hand on his official website to serve as a prayer for the victims.

The artist has recorded a video to encourage his fans in Taiwan while he was there for his annual fan meeting, saying, 'I am with you all; continue to do your best.'

Though the venue for Andy Lau's fan meeting was attended by a lot of people with the venue housing thousands of people, he took his time to inquire after the people in every table. He offered words of encouragement to the people who were affected by the disasters and told them to watch for their safety.

Andy Lau may have seemed tired after the fan meet, but he waved cheerfully at his fans when he was about to leave the venue. The singer rushed back to Hong Kong after the eight-hour long fan meeting.

Apart from the famous singer, many more Taiwanese stars took part in helping the victims of the gas explosion in Kaohsiung. Jay Chou and the boy band Mayday decided to announce the amount of money they have donated to the victims in order to encourage others to donate more which in turn got criticized by the media.

Taiwanese singer Elva Hsiao also participated in the donations, but was rather offended when they were criticized for what they did, turning their good intentions into something negative. The singer, as retaliation, posted about her disappointment on her Weibo account, stating that 'charity needs no comparison and we shouldn't monetize kindness.'

Many netizens have criticized the media for saying such things and putting malice in what the celebrities have done for the victims of the Taiwan disasters.
