3D printed cars is still a far-fetched technology waiting to happen in the future, but the recent technological advancements indicate that this future will soon be a reality as WA-based mechanical engineer Kevin Lo shows it's possible.

According to Pierce Pioneer, a design from Vancouver has shown that it is possible to use 3D technology for developing four wheelers as well. The design belongs to Kevin Lo and hit limelight when the former emerged as the winner of a competition that was held in Vancouver. Touted as a path-breaking innovation, this 3D-printed car is called the "Reload Redacted Swim/Sport" model. The design shows that the model is extremely sleek and looks quite swanky. As of now, the innovative options is just a design but its maker already seems to have hit gold spot as he has earned a massive prize of $7,500, along with an assurance of getting a royalty on every sale being made.

Once implemented, the technology promises to give the users a unique opportunity to customize the features as per their requirements. Currently, the 3D printed car is being developed and will be sold starting next year. The retail price is going to be anywhere between $18,000 and $30,000. Another report on Fox News points out that Local Motors will be working on the design, as confirmed on Fox News. The 2+2 coupe design of the automobile was chosen by the company's crowdsourcing portal.

The car design is inspired by the classic skateboard style and comes with a chassis that houses the drivetrain battery for better efficiency. Other awesome features of this mobile includes external speakers for the audio system, as well as removable front, rear and roof panels that give the users a unique flexibility of switching between various styles. The parts of the car will be produced by a room size printer. The initial version of the car will not feature a high speed and is recommended for nearby driving only. The production version will be built at a facility in Knoxville, Tenn.
