(Photo : MJ Kim/Getty Images) BANGKOK, THAILAND - FEBRUARY 3: Singer Vanness Wu from Taiwan arrives at 'MTV Asia Aid' at the IMPACT Arena on February 3, 2005 in Bangkok, Thailand. The fourth annual event was formerly called 'MTV Asia Awards' but has repositioned itself as an international benefit to support the relief effort following the Asian earthquake and tsunami.
Four-letter words are always a subject of alarm and discord. In the case of Vanness Wu, all it took was a non-expletive "What" to land the headlines.
During a press conference on July 8, Wu was put on the hot seat as reporters in Hong Kong asked the Asia's Got Talent judge about the status of his marriage. The inquiries were in reference to the latest post of 32-year-old Singaporean heiress Arissa Cheo on Instagram suggesting about a relationship that consists of "years of lies, deceit, pent-up frustration and prolonged emotional abuse."

According to Hong Kong media, Wu's response to the questions was an angry 'What!" The singer-actor was further asked if the rumors would affect his mood when shooting, to which he replied, "If you continue to ask, it might!" He added that his answer to every question will always be the same and asked that his privacy be respected. In this regard, Wu kept his silence about Cheo's post.
A day after the allegedly heated incident, Wu's camp clarified that he said "What!" in a humorous approach. To exhibit his point, Wu shared on Facebook a three-second recording of him saying "What!" His manager backed him up and said that Wu was placed in a "helpless" situation and misinterpreted to have turned angry during the interview.
"It turns out that making people laugh can be written as angry. Ok. . . then let me do it again. When you laugh this time, are you happy or are you scared by me?" Wu posted.
Toward the end of January, Wu posted on Instagram and Sina Weibo a photo of a couple kissing, with the caption, "Is everyone done? Don't write about it anymore. Thank you." The post was his way of refuting rumors that he and his wife are heading toward divorce following a number of angry spats against each other on social media.
Wu and Cheo have been married since 2013, following an on-and-off relationship of almost 10 years. In a joint magazine interview in April 2014, Cheo said she believes that love is not perfect, which Wu echoed by saying that love is about "loving the imperfect person perfectly."
