Fans Goof Around with Life-Size 'Crayon Shin-Chan' Figures at 25th Anniversary Exhibit

Chinese fans, young and old, had fun taking pictures with the many life-sized figures of "Crayon Shin-chan" in Shenyang, Liaoning province. Depicting funny expressions and misadventures of the mischievous Japanese character, the figures comprise an exhibit that is part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the well-loved manga series.

Children joined the launching ceremony and even danced with a Shin-chan mascot. Fans were treated to an unbridled photo-op with models of the beloved cartoon character featuring varying antics. Included in the exhibition are huge colored versions of the manga, which are also a favorite among the visitors. Not to be missed were models of the the five-year-old naughty boy's white dog aptly named "Shiro" and his favorite live-action superhero Action Kamen.

Around 50 figures that stand at approximately 1.05 meters each brought to life many of the fans' childhood memories of the manga and anime series. Crayon Shin-chan was originally intended for kids but soon gained huge following in children of all ages in many countries, including China. The daily life of the naughty anime character is filled with hilarious and interesting take on activities mostly reserved for adults, eventually making it an endearing show for everyone.

The exhibit was first shown in Joy City of Beijing, where the figures were situated around the mall for both indoor and outdoor picture taking. Aside from the cartoon models, posters and manuscripts of the anime were also on display. The exhibition ran in the capital city from April 18 to June 22. Other cities in China are also set to partake in the anniversary event.

Creator Yoshito Usui wrote and illustrated the series, which first ran in Japanese magazine Weekly Manga Action in 1990. The story revolves around the mischief and mishaps of a toddler with the mind of an adult, his family, dog, friends, and neighbors. In 1992, the anime adaptation first aired on TV Asahi and was since dubbed in more than 25 languages, including Swedish, Greek, Romanian, Mandarin, and Filipino. Usui's death in 2009 resulted in the final run of the series in 2010, with his team promising to create a "New Crayon Shin-chan."
