According to Venture Beat, Amazon Web Services announced the launch of its new Device Farm. This is a platform exclusively for developers where they will be given a chance to test their apps for Android and Fire operating system. The unique platform will allow them to select the type of phone that they want to test their apps on, and accordingly, the software will evaluate the results allowing them to introduce changes wherever required. Werner Vogels, Amazon's chief technology office, confirmed the news in the Amazon Web Services conference.
The news comes shortly after Google acquired Appurify, which is a mobile testing startup. In addition to the Fire operating system devices, Google also provides support for iOS which Amazon is unable to provide. With this new introduction, Amazon will be better equipped to handle the competition from Google.
Starting monday, the new device will be available for use, as confirmed on a report on Market Watch. As for the charges, the amount charged will depend on the time for which the developers use the portal.
Amazon is advertising this platform as a secure and safe platform for developers who want to test their apps. Previously, developers had no choice but to test the apps manually, which was also risky. Usually, the test are simulations that give them an approximate idea. Even for testing the device on mobiles, they have to rely on their personal collections. However, with the introduction of this platform, this risk is minimised.
On the other hand, the Device Firm reduces the complexity involved allowing developers to focus exclusively on developing the app. Users simply have to upload their app and select or even customise the testing suite available on the platform.
