The Australian government is considering intervening in the immigration case of seven-month-old Gammy who was born with Down syndrome and congenital heart disease, reports stated Monday.

The brown-eyed, blond boy is now under the care of his Thai surrogate mother, 21-year-old Pattaramon Chanbua, who accused Gammy's Australian biological parents of abandoning the boy after discovering that he was not healthy. Reportedly, the couple only took Gammy's healthy twin sister.

Chanbua told reporters that she only met the Australian couple once, and the only information she had about them is that they reside in Western Australia.

Now, the Australian government is contemplating intervening in the case, citing that the little boy may be entitled to citizenship in the country.

However, Australian Immigration Minister Scott Morrison told Sydney Radio that though they are contemplating assisting the child, the government of Australia does not "want to raise any false hopes" as the case can be a bit complicated due to it occurring in another country.

On the other hand, Morrison was quoted applauding Gammy's young surrogate mother, calling her "an absolute hero" and "a saint."

The 21-year-old food vendor told Associated Press that she is willing to forgive the couple and wants to see that they give the same love and care to both Gammy and his twin sister.

A surrogacy agency had promised 300,000 baht or a $9,300 payment to Chanbua to be a surrogate mother for the Australian couple. However, the young woman has not been fully paid since the twins' birth in December.

She told sources that the agency knew of Gammy's condition even while she was still 4 or 5 months pregnant with the twins, but did not inform her until she was seven months due. At that time, they suggested she undergo an abortion.

She strongly detested the idea saying: "I asked them, 'Are you still humans?' I really wanted to know."
