Walmart makes an effort to compete with U.S. retailer Amazon by building its own website that personalizes customer's online shopping experience.
The new website feature has the ability to show curated shopping suggestions for customers based on the previous purchases they made. The customers will also have a unique Walmart homepage depending on the location of the shopper.

The personalized homepage will show local events and weather forecasts in the vicinity. Customers can also view their past purchases.
For instance, if a new mom bought a stroller from Walmart.com, the site will be able to recommend car seats and diapers as well, according to Boston.com.
Or when a customer located in Dallas would search for "sports jerseys," the search results would suggest a Dallas or Rangers cowboy gear.
The increased personalization is Walmart's way of improving customer experience in the site. It is reported that they plan to re-launch the site in early 2015.
However, experts said that Walmart picked a wrong time to introduce their online shopping since the U.S. sales for discount division has declined.
Nonetheless, the retailer's e-commerce performance did well for the year with an increase of 30 percent, about US$10 billion during the fiscal year. The statistic was calculated until Jan. 31.
Because of the sales drop from the discount division, Walmart relies on the growing online retailing business. However, Walmart's online sales are still a fraction of the annual revenue worth US$473 billion. Comparatively, Amazon boasts a US$60.9 billion yearly sales.
Meanwhile, other retailers are also trying to catch up with the virtual retailing hype. Home Depot and Staples are reportedly working toward bringing their customers a personalized shopping experience.
Home Depot is one step ahead since its site already has a product recommendation for its customers' browser history and recent purchases.
