Harry Potter Spin-off Movie: Auditions for ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Character ‘Melody’ Open to Non-Actors

Girls between 8 and 12 are being sought by Warner Brothers for an open casting in London on Saturday for the upcoming "Harry Potter" spinoff movie, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

The auditions is for the role of Melody, described by the official Warner Brothers website as "a haunted young girl with an inner strength and stillness."

"She has an ability to see deep into people and understand them," the website added.


First published in 2001 under fictitious author Newt Scamander, the book of the Harry Potter spin-off movie is reportedly a companion piece to the "Harry Potter" series. J. K. Rowling used Scamander as a pseudonym for the development of the book.

The book had been a "fun exercise" for Rowling, who wrote the book while working on "Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix." At the time, she had already enough material for magical creatures after work on the previous "Harry Potter" books, according to The Inquisitr.

Announcement of the "Harry Potter" spin-off movie took place in 2013, with Warner Brothers saying later that the adaptation would be at least be a trilogy.

The first installment of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is Rowling's screenwriting debut, with David Yates set to direct.

Casting of all main characters except Melody and the wizard Kredan has already been completed, according to the BBC.

Donning the character of Newt Scamander in the "Harry Potter" spin-off is Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne from "The Theory of Everything," while the character Kredan will be played by Ezra Miller of "Perks of Being a Wallflower" and the character Porpentina by Katherine Waterston of "Boardwalk Empire."

Dan Fogler will play Jacob, and Alison Sudol is set to play the character Queenie, reported Variety.

The "Harry Potter" spin-off casting call will take place at Centre Hall, Royal Victoria Dock, 1 Western Gateway on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The queue will reportedly open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

In accordance with the full application criteria for the "Harry Potter" spin-off movie auditions, applicants must be available for shoots between August 2015 and January 2016, according to MTV.

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is set for release in theaters on Nov. 18, 2016.
