Project Ara is the upcoming low cost Android modular phone from Google. This particular project will offer greater freedom for the users to customize, replace, or repair their phone without visiting the repairing shops. If any part of chip of the device is damaged, user will be able to change the part rather than going for a new phone.
There are plenty number of phones with high configuration but the price is also high. With these modular phones, users will be able to cut down the price. For example, one might want better camera performance for taking selfies. It doesn't mean that the user needs high configuration hardware to capture great snaps. The user can shift to better camera rather than spending extra money for hardware module and this will reduce the extra cost.
Google at the Ara Developer Conference introduced the custom-tailored smartphone. In this event, a second generation working model Spiral 2 prototype was shown for demonstration and the handset was showed booting on stage.
However, regarding the performance of the handset, it is still a challenge for Google. According to the reports by GeekSnack, the hardware configuration of the modular phones will be solid and the body will be aluminium protected as the support of steel frame will provide better longevity.
Puerto Rico will be the first region, which will see the launch of the device. There are reports that the promotional activity of the project will begin from August. According to Times, the primary modular phones might have a price tag of $50.
Google is facing huge challenges regarding this modular phone. Since, different manufacturers are involved with the hardware chips production, there might be no guarantee that all parts will work together without any problem.
