KBG84 is Japan's hot new girl band, and while most pop stars are composed of youthful members, KBG84 band has grannies for members, with 80 being the minimum age requirement for members. The oldest member of KBG84 is a surprising 97 years old.

While young pop stars enjoy belting out songs about love and heartbreak, these feisty grannies enjoy singing about nature.

Despite their new-found popularity, KBG84 members have admitted to being a bit bemused by their success finishing a sell-out tour in Japan and getting offered a record deal, according to The Mirror.

Japan's hot new girl band has 33 members, all of whom are from the small Kohama island in Okinawa. The island is currently made up of only 600 inhabitants.

How did the KBG84 members get to live so long? Well, people from the region are reportedly enjoying eating more vegetables, with sugar scarce in their diet. This makes life expectancy of people in the island one of the highest in the world, unlike other areas in Japan where people eat rice as staple food, according to The Inquisitr.

In Okinawa, the staple is a type of sweet potato with purple flesh.

"When I first heard someone call us 'idols' I thought an idol meant someone who had lived a long life and was at the gates of heaven," 92-yaer-old Tomi Menaka told the AFP. "But in Tokyo they told me it was an entertainer - which was a relief because I thought it meant I was on my way to heaven,"

"I hadn't even been to Tokyo or Osaka. I wanted to go there before I went to heaven," she added. "Going to Tokyo for the first time, I thought I was so lucky to be born. I got to meet my grandchildren. I'll never forget it. I was moved to tears."

But while KBG84 members seem spritely for their age, KBG84 gigs' backstage scenario contains walking frames, block entrances, blood pressure monitors and defibrillators close by the members, reported The Guardian.

On social media, KBG84 is receiving much love as well.

KBG84's troupe of singers and dancers recently released a music video for their single called "Come on and Dance, Kohama Island."
