Details of the FBI's participation in the investigation was not disclosed. Texas Rangers are also looking into what really transpired inside Bland's Waller County jail cell.
According to the Waller County Sheriff's Office, Bland was no longer breathing when jail officers found her hanging inside her cell. The wall Country Sheriff's office stated that Bland died of asphyxiation and it appeared it was self-inflicted.
Bland was declared dead after a CPR failed to revive her, the Waller County Sheriff's Office said.
She was reportedly alone inside her jail before she died, said Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith.
The FBI has joined the investigation after Bland's family and friends insisted that the she will never hurt herself, much more commit suicide.
A Chicago-area native, Bland arrived in Texas hoping to find a job and start a new life. She recently accepted a job with the Prairie View A&M where she graduated.
On 10 July, a police officer pulled Bland over because she failed to make the proper signaling during a lane change, the state's Department of Public Safety announced.
The officer arrested Bland on claims that she assaulted him. Bland allegedly was uncooperative and argumentative during the traffic stop.
The victim's family doubt the claims that she committed suicide. Her friends also expressed shock that someone arrested for a traffic violation could end up dead inside a county jail three days later.
Sources said Bland was looking forward to posting bond last Saturday and getting out of the jail. She died on Monday.
