According to Mashable, Facebook is testing a new feature where users will be able to buy a lot more stuff from the Facebook business pages. With this feature, retailers will use their Facebook pages as store fronts. The feature will also be visible on mobile phones as a separate shopping tab, just like it is seen on the Desktop. Under this tab, companies will be free to showcase their list of offerings just like they would normally do on their online portal.
Additionally, retailers will be given the freedom to decide whether the payment will be done inside the Facebook page or should the customers be re-directed to the merchant page.
For retailers who choose to keep the payment process within Facebook, the look will be similar to the currently existing Buy Button on Facebook ads. As of now, there is no particular timeline that the company is following when it will introduce the new feature to the market; however, testing for the same has already begun. Facebook spokesperson Mike Mannings, who confirmed the development, also said that he will not be able to give any details about the companies that are participating in the testing phase of this new feature.
Also, Facebook is not the first to introduce this feature as Twitter and Pinterest have brought forth something similar. Pinterest introduced buyable pins. With the virtual medium gaining more importance, big brands like Facebook and Twitter are keen to use their portal to provide a native shopping experience to the user and at the same time earn more revenue.
Another report on Business Today also confirmed that Facebook will be using its portal to host e-commerce websites. In addition to a series of other features that Facebook already has, this option is sure to make it more interesting for the buyers as well as the sellers.
