A well known Qigong "master" in China has been arrested on Thursday in Jiangxi Province in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of a local businessman and known follower.

Xinhua reported that the so-called Qigong "master" Wang Lin, along with three other suspects, have been arrested in connection with the July 9 kidnapping and murder of a businessman. Police identified the victim only by his surname, "Zou".

According to investigators, Wang and Zou have known each other for 13 years. Global Times reported that Zou gave money, gold and sports cars to Wang.

In exchange, Zou received lessons in the martial arts and become one of Wang's "disciples". However, in 2102, Zou parted ways with his former master and exposed many of Wang's alleged illegal activities to reporters and the police. Wang later claimed that he is innocent of the accusations hurled by Zou against him.

Qigong is a Chinese form of martial arts that also includes meditation. Two years ago, Wang became a celebrity when online pictures of him performing incredible feats started circulating. Wang claimed that his supernatural abilities come from his mastery of Qingong. With his new found fame, other celebrities and even politicians come to him just to have their pictures taken with him.

China.org reported that Wang is on friendly terms with many high profile personalities such as Jack Ma, who founded the Alibaba company, and Chinese actor Jackie Chan. Photos of Wang posing with these two personalities and other famous people have been circulating online.

But not everyone was impressed by Wang's claims of possessing supernatural gifts. One local reporter said that he was more likely using parlor tricks and did not have superhuman powers, according to The National. There have been allegations that Wang was able to enrich himself by collecting money from those he had "healed".

Two years ago, local law enforcement agencies investigated Wang for illegal gun possession as well as performing medical operations without a license. However the charges were dropped since investigators were not able to gather sufficient evidence to justify his arrest.
