According to BBC, an early version of the Cortana app for Android powered smartphones was accidentally leaked over the weekend. This app is being developed by Microsoft and is a voice driven personal assistant application. The app was supposed to be revealed alongside the launch of Windows 10, which is scheduled to happen this month. Users who have tested the app are already sharing reviews, saying that the functionality is similar to what is being seen on Windows headsets.
The leak revealed that the app was capable of providing updated information about weather, traffic, places to eat and reminders about forthcoming appointments and a lot more. The app is also programed to transcribe speech into emails and text messages.
Activating the app on Windows is easy as users just have to say Hey Cortana to bring it to life. Meanwhile Android and Apple customers will have to specifically activate the app in order to use its features. Though the app had a lot of familiar features, it lacked some of the facilities that the Windows version included. For instance, Cortana on android does not allow listening to music or read emails regarding parcel delivery information. The application also lacked privacy settings which means there is nothing to stop it from being activated when the phone is not in use or users are asleep.
Another report on PC World says that the Cortana was announced last month by Microsoft, and while working on the launch of the application, Microsoft said that it was keen to allow more users to benefit from the features of this application and therefore they are developing it across platforms.
The makers have already initiated a beta program wherein users with a Windows Insider account are given a chance to try Cortana before the official release of the app.
