While "The Expendables 3" is enjoying its fair share of global audience action, Sylvester Stallone has confirmed that an all-female spin-off known as "The Expendabelles" is in the works with Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde) being set to direct.
Stallone directed the first Expendables movie and is one of the lead stars for the eighties-themed action film franchise.

He spoke at the premiere of the third and latest installment for the action series in London, saying: "With Expendabelles you've got a situation where we're in unchartered waters to put all women together and think 'will that really work?'"
The actor also emphasized not only the use of a clever name but for the actual film to live up to such label.
Last February, a plot summary for The Expendabelles was released, drawing attention to the role of women in replacing male Navy SEALS and carrying out an "impossible" mission. Fierce female operatives are being called to pose as fancy call-girls and save one of the world's best nuclear scientists.
Stallone jokingly said that he would prefer to have Sigourney Weaver play the role of his on-screen wife.
"Are the Expendabelles really part of a divorce where Sigourney Weaver, who's my wife, inherited half the Expendables...", the actor said. "She'd get the house, the kids and my mercenaries."
As producer of the past three Expendables movies, Avi Lerner stated that The Expendabelles will be filmed early next year and that lines for the script are being finalized.
He did not disclose any more details, except that they have plenty of ideas about who will be starring in the movie and when they will be shooting in 2015.
Currently, there are no cast members that have been announced, although the movie's website Screen Rant has already drawn attention to the possibilities of Cameron Diaz, Meryl Streep, and Milla Jovovich being considered to star in the film.
Official statements about casting are expected to be released before the year ends.
