Among the recalls Osamu Corp. issued were all frozen tuna disposed at grocery stores and restaurants all over the United States between May 9 and July 9 of this year. The said products bear the purchase numbers 8563 through 8599, kspr.com has learned.
Furthermore, one lot of frozen yellow-fin tuna chunk meat distributed to AFC Corp. for use in sushi franchises across the United States from May 20 to May 26 with the lot number 68568 are being recalled by Osamu Corp.
Around 53 cases of Salmonella in nine states were reported by the CDC in late May.
Most infected individuals who got ill reported eating sushi with raw tuna within a week before they manifested symptoms. A total of eleven people were hospitalized due to Salmonella, and so far no deaths have been reported.
Authorities warned that the recalled products should be immediately returned and not to be sold or served.
Of the different states identified with Salmonella cases, California has the most reported incident. The breakdown of the 62 cases in different states is: Illinois (1), Minnesota (4), Michigan (1), New Mexico (6), Mississippi (1), Virginia (1), Wisconsin (1), Washington (1), South Dakota (1), Arizona (11) and California (34), according to q13fox.com.
The CDC stated that the youngest age of an infected individual is under 1 and the oldest is 83 years old.
The CDC advises those individuals prone to contracting the infection (those with compromised immune system, those very young or very old) to avoid eating shellfish or raw fish, CNN reported.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection include abdominal cramps, fever and diarrhea that manifest 12-72 hours following exposure.
Infections caused by Salmonella paratyphi B variant are likely to have occurred from March 5 to July 7. And due to delayed reporting of the illness (two to four weeks after getting sick) by the people, more incidents may have probably occurred after the last tally conducted on July 19.
