Looks like the desperate attempts are not having any positive effects. After the likes of Facebook, Google and Apple withdrawing support from Flash, it is time for the live game streaming portal Twitch to join the league.
According to PC World, Twitch has slowly yet gradually decided to shift to HTML5 instead of continuing to rely on the Flash technologies. The live game streaming website has confirmed that it will be launching a new version of the HTML5-based player controls. As of now, the roll out is going to do a gradual to full fledged revamp. But even the initial pool of changes indicates the firmness of the decision to shift to HTML5; however, it will be interesting to see how the change is managed as the videos are still primarily flash based.
The report also quoted a Twitch staff member who confirmed the update. Twitch has confirmed that the shift will be gradual since a large part of its functions are currently relying on Flash. They are expected to port feature by feature. Meanwhile, Twitch has said that it will not be able to give up Flash completely in order to support Firefox. The non Firefox users are expected to see the new controls while those who are using Firefox will support MSE but only on certain selected websites.
The shift to HTML of Twitch will reportedly make a big impact as this change will help users stream videos faster and still drain less amount of your battery, Engadget reported. Additionally, Twitch is the latest to join the league after YouTube dropped the support for Flash as HTML5 is now being used as their default player.
