The Apple Watch is the king of the wearables market today after the latest report claims the device captured 75 percent of the market, leaving every other smart watch in the dust to burn. This shouldn't be surprising since the media focused more on Apple's offering than any other.

According to research firm Strategy Analytics, Apple managed to sell over 4 million of its smartwatch device worldwide in the second quarter of 2015. Samsung was left with only 7.5 percent of the market, despite being first to offer several years before the Apple Watch. Interestingly enough, Samsung had a commanding 74 percent of the market back in 2014, before Apple launch its smart watch.

The other manufacturers such as Sony and Pebble, who were also first to offer before Apple, carved out a combined 17 percent share of the market. This is indeed a big deal and proof of how powerful the Apple brand is, throughout the world.

Can things change?

It will in the years to come as competitors will eventually catch up. We see it happen with the iPhone, didn't we? Apple was ahead of everyone for a number of years; then Android slowly climbed the ladder with the help of hundreds, if not thousands of handset manufacturers.

The iPhone is still the number one smartphone on the market today, but Android is the number one operating system.

We suspect that in the years to come, the Apple Watch will still be the number one smart watch, but Android Wear will be the number one operating system. Whether or not Android Wear devices will become better than what Apple is still left to be seen.

What we really want to know right now is if folks will go out and purchase the second version of the Apple Watch whenever it released. It would all come down to if consumers like the device, and if they find it useful enough. After all, the Apple Watch requires a connection to an iPhone to deliver all the cool features.
