Mobile social networking website Foursquare previewed its new app to show-off its new features.

Foursquare earlier announced it would divide its app into two different programs. Its location sharing capabilities was given to its spinoff app, Swarm, while Foursquare turns into an app that recommends locations based on user preferences.

Subscribers accustomed to the old version of Foursquare should note the new edition is an entirely new program. The new version has removed the "check-in" feature but has a new pink and blue color scheme, new flagpole and app icon.

The first time users open the application, he or she is given a list of "tastes" to select to suit their preferences. The choices might include "pancakes," "martinis," "outdoor seating" and "art galleries." After choosing, the user will be sent to the homepage of the application.

The program finds the device's location and provides a header bar with choices for breakfast, lunch, brunch, snacks, dinner, night life and so on.

The new app makes recommendations depending on the personalized "tastes" chosen earlier. If a user is looking at the nightlife header, the app makes numerous suggestions for various classes like "Fancy Cocktails" and "Dive Bars."

If an establishment is tapped, the user is given its basic information such as the address, phone number and photos of the venue.

A user is also provided with "tips," a review of the place given by another Foursquare user to help decide if the suggestion is appropriate. The tips from the user's friends or "follow" list would surface higher and help inform the user.

Aside from the automatic search for places he receives every time he or she opens the app, a user can also search for prospective venues to visit by toggling the map.

The app then offers results based on the user's coordinates. A "What's Here" tab that appears on the bottom will provide a list of the most suitable places to go based on the user's and other people's preferences.

The new Foursquare will be made available Thursday at Google Play and in the App Store from noon onwards.
