Finally, the NASA's New Horizons spacecraft bids farewell to Pluto, the once mysterious and isolated place in our Solar System. As the flyby finished, more shots have been taken. Images of the dwarf planet reveal that its atmosphere is quite hazy, wispy and indicates tons of ice in the surface.

According to Popular Mechanics, when New Horizons took it's farewell pictures, Pluto's backlit images looked definitely astonishing. The whitish glows that encircled the whole planet were mesmerizing, that's how Alan Stern, the mission leader of the Pluto flyby described it.
At the time this write-up will be published, the New Horizons is expected to be 7.5 million miles away from Pluto. The team of researchers have concluded that the hazy atmospheric images contributes to the reddish color of the planet.
CS Monitor further reports on the final stages of the Pluto flyby. Michael Summers of the George Mason University has a theory that if he was on Pluto's ground and he would look up, the haze in the upper part of the atmosphere will not be obvious. The sunlight in Pluto has sadly, been too difficult to measure this time.
Fortunately, more have been revealed on the surface of Pluto. There are interesting regions that were seemingly dark, with crater-pocketed landscapes. This dark region has been called by the Pluto Flyby team as the Cthulhu Region.
On Stern's interview with Fox News, he expressed that though they would like to have more research in Pluto, it is impossible at this point. "Pluto has a very complicated story to tell. There is a lot of work we need to do to understand this very complicated place," Stern said.
Although the images from the recent Pluto research can still be considered very limited, the geological activities in the dwarf planet can be considered as ancient and constant. The estimated temperature in Pluto is at minus 380 degrees Fahrenheit, that would be minus 229 degrees in Celsius. This makes water ice to remain in such state.
However, there are certain areas in the planet to have moving ice. The nitrogen content in Pluto is considered to be soft and might even have the ability to flow like the glaciers we have here on Earth.
