The news came in the heels of reports that the original film did not perform well in India, taking home a meager US$1 million in gross profit. Fox said that the film is still running in India.

Even though the film was not a big hit in India, FSS CEO Vijay Singh still expressed his confidence in the Bollywood remake.

In an interview with Times of India, Singh said the country would better relate to the new version than the first one released from the United States. The Western version stars Shailene Woodley, who played the 16-year-old cancer patient who falls in love with Ansel Elgort's character who also has cancer.

"The story resonates with the emotions of today's youth and has found universal appeal. We are excited to adapt the film for Bollywood and can't wait to get started," said Singh.

There were no announcement on the casting yet.

Fox Star Studios have had experience in making Bollywood remakes. The media company has released the Indian version of "Metro Manila," a UK entry for best foreign language film in 2014 Oscar Awards, in May. They also announced the October released of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz' Bollywood makeover of "Knight and Day."

"The Fault in Our Stars" is considered to be one of the top grossing films of the year. With a limited budget of US$12 million, the movie was able to multiply it to gain more than US$263 million in the worldwide box office.

The film received positive reviews and Woodley was praised with her performance in the film.
