Obama Hailed “A New and Emerging Africa” During The Summit

'New Africa Emerging' --Barack Obama

U.S. President Barack Obama praised a better and emerging Africa with 40 African leaders on the last day of a summit held at Washington DC.

The talks on Wednesday focused on security and corruption, which all summit participants consider major dtriments to Africa's growth.

During the summit, U.S. firms pledged U.S.$37 billion worth of investments in Africa. Obama strongly encouraged his successor to continue U.S. commitment to Africa to serve as a reminder of the two countries' strong partnership.

The U.S. president described the three-day summit as an extraordinary event.

On Wednesday, the White House announced its new aid to support African peacekeeping and security cooperation.

Obama said nations agreed to gather "experts" to discuss transparency and good governance in the region.

Alongside with the discussions on security and governance, Obama also tackled how the U.S. was shifting its support to Africa. Also Obama added that its 2013 Power Africa pledged to double electricity in Saharan Africa.

The U.S. will also be conducting programs to lift 50 million people from poverty and children infected with HIV.

First Lady Michelle Obama and former First Lady Laura Bush also hosted a conference focusing on education and health with the spouses of African leaders.

The three-day summit turned out a success. The presidents of regions affected by Ebola - Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone cancelled their plans to attend the summit and sent delegates instead.
