Beijing is making a bold move in fighting for cleaner air. China's capital is reportedly allocating 230 million yuan to a nearby city to help curb air pollution in the area.
According to China.org.cn, the allocated amount will be used to renovate around 867 coal-fired boilers in Langfang, Hebei Province in hopes of cutting coal consumption by up to 400,000 tonnes annually.

Beijing's announcement comes amid its efforts to curb air pollution in the city and the neighboring areas.
It also comes amid Beijing's bid for the upcoming Winter Olympics in 2022.
"We will improve the air quality not only for the Games but also for the demand of our people. No matter whether we win the bid or not, we will take efforts to improve the air quality,"Vancouver Olympic gold medalist and Beijing's ambassador for the 2022 Winter Olympics Shen Xue said Tuesday.
In Beijing alone, large industrial plants have been closed down and the natural gas heating system has been implemented, as per The New Indian Express. Tianjin and Hebei also followed Beijing's lead in an attempt to improve air quality prior to the Winter Olympics.
"We can feel since last year the great improvement of the air quality in Beijing," Shen's husband Zhao Hongbo said.
Deputy director of press and communications department of Beijing 2022 Xu Jicheng also recognized the efforts of the city saying that the air pollution has already been reduced and contained.
"Our mountain venues, the air quality there is very high. When we talk about fresh air in China, we are talking about Qingdao, the city hosting sailing in 2008 Olympics and the mountain area in Zhangjiakou and Yanqing, they are Qingdao deep in the mountain. So they have already reached the Olympic standard, and even better. I have the confidence," Jicheng added, Deccan Herald has learned.
By 2017, Beijing and its neighboring regions are eyeing to cut about 83 million tonnes from its yearly coal consumption.
