President Xi Jinping has vowed to put an end to widespread corruption at all levels of the Chinese government. At-risk politicians that have been identified by government officials are sent away to take tours of prison facilities, which is designed to serve as a deterrent from corrupt behavior.

These prison tours are orchestrated by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) which identified 200 "at risk" politicians that were seen as having a high level of corrupt activities.

Politicians were given tours of Yancheng Prison in Hebei Province at a facility that is governed by the Ministry of Justice that includes foreign prisoners and convicted Chinese government officials.

This prison also houses Xie Yalong, former head of the Chinese soccer association, who sentenced in 2012 to a 10-year sentence for corruption charges.

During the tour, politicians were allowed to discuss with prisoners about life behind bars.

Although these prison tours were created to deter corruption, many everyday citizens are skeptical and have noted that the prisoners in high-profile cases are sent to "Club Fed."

The initiative seemed to lack merit with the public, whom are mostly skeptical about the severity of the punishment inflicted upon high-profile prisoners who were once in social circles of some of the most powerful and elite.

The Chinese government released a statement about the reaction of the visiting at-risk politicians.

"(They) narrated their transformation into corrupt officials and detailed the pain of their loss of freedom and suffering it caused their families. A metal door blocking the path to freedom, a face of self-blaming regret, a tearful confession left the participants stunned."
