Can a bad perm experience actually turn into something good?

Jasmine Lawrence, the CEO and founder of EDEN BodyWorks, might be one to agree.

Lawrence, now 23, remembers how a particularly harsh perm treatment brought her both a great deal of suffering and a greater deal of success.

At age 11, Jasmine Lawrence suffered greatly from a disastrous encounter with a bad relaxing perm.

It was not long before Lawrence's hair began to fall out and would not stop.

Lawrence admitted to having hair only on the top of her head and having to use braids to conceal the exposed parts of her scalp.

However, Lawrence did not dwell on her bad experience.

Instead, she began her research on natural alternatives to use in hair products.

After experiencing the negatives of using harsh chemicals, Lawrence insisted that she would never use those products again.

Upon the discovery of recipes for a wide variety of all natural homemade hair products, Lawrence was quick to give herself the title of CEO and launch her own company, EDEN BodyWorks.

EDEN BodyWorks featured products exclusively researched and created by Lawrence.

It was not long before a notable sufferer of a bad perm experience came across Lawrence's successful business: Oprah Winfrey.

When she was still reporting as a news anchor, Oprah had undergone an experience that was very similar to Lawrence: she, too, had lost all of her hair due to harsh chemicals.

Marveling over the courage and determination the young girl used to achieve her own brand, Oprah was eager to interview the fresh CEO.

The exposure Lawrence was given helped her thrive in her business's endeavors, and this year, she will be celebrating her company's tenth birthday.

As of now, the company is worth approximately 2 million dollars.

Despite her financial success, Lawrence has not changed much over the last decade.

As a recent graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology with a computer science degree, Lawrence is also pursuing another business route - in robotics.

As with EDEN BodyWorks, Lawrence has achieved success in her robotic experience.

In fact, Lawrence is currently serving as the program manager of Xbox One's engineering team.

As Lawrence prepares herself for graduate school at the University of Washington, she is still working on her original business - but this time, she plans to use her talents and compassionate personality in the field of human-centered design and engineering.
