Disney unveils its latest movie "Descendants" with "High School Musical" top choreographer Kenny Ortega at the helm.
"Descendants" premieres Friday (8pm ET/PT) on Disney Channel. The live-action movie follows the lives and adventures of a bunch of teenagers who happen to be the kids of Disney's favorite villain characters Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, Jafar, and Snow White's Evil Queen. Their Paths cross with the offspring of Disney princesses Belle and Aurora, and Cinderella's Fairy God Mother.

The movie's story is set at a prep school and deals with the battle between good and evil. "Descendants" comes on the heels of other top-rating Disney movies especially the 2006 blockbuster "High Musical" which broke viewership records and was followed by a concert tour, a best-selling album, and other worldwide productions.
While Ortega is widely known for his phenomenal work in "High School Musical" he stressed that while viewers may notice a few similarities in the themes of the two movies, "Descendants" stands on its own completely, USA Today reported.
Actress Sofia Carson, 22 is more than happy to be casted in the Disney movie, "Starting out, Disney is all that I've really known. I would love to do more with the channel," she told the news site.
Director-choreographer Kenny Ortega faced a different challenge creating the movie's dance moves. They had to be able to express the human conflict between good and evil through dance, Variety reported.
"We wanted it to have some sort of contemporary pop edge that was accessible to a young audience. I'm hoping there are moves (in the film) that people will connect with and emulate, and perhaps learn. We were very lucky with that with 'High School Musical'," Ortega told Variety.
In a report by Mercury News, the cast and crew of "Descendants" shot the film around Vancouver in 31 days after three weeks of rehearsals with Ortega.
"This was a chance to work with beloved heritage characters and help create new ones. Descendants is packed with seven tunes spanning a variety of styles," Ortega told the news site.
