According to i4u, Pinterest made a public announcement disclosing its workforce diversity figures and also accepted that there is a lack of racial diversity. Taking responsibility, Pinterest said that it would work aggressively to rectify the problem in the coming times.
The blog post also revealed the company's other plans for the next year. In its statement, Pinterest said that it was hoping that the other companies would learn from its example. As per the report, approximately 42 percent of the employees at Pinterest are females, while almost 80 percent of the employees in its engineering service division are males.
One of the company's main goals in 2016 is to increase the hiring of female employees. Revealing its plan for the next year, the company said that it aimed at including more female members in its technical team. Outlining its motive, the company said that it planned to add at least 30 percent female engineers on board. Additionally, they also plan to hire at least 8 percent engineers from under represented backgrounds in order to ensure that the members of the community are given equal opportunity.
In fact, Pinterest has also said that it plans to launch a separate and dedicated effort in this direction by introducing Inclusion Laboratories. The sole purpose of this set-up will be to focus on the diversity strategies helping the company meet its goals. The whole program is based on recruiting people on the basis of internship programs.
Another report on Uncover Michigan quoted Evan Sharp from the Pinterest group saying that the company had made modest progress over the last one year and was confident of achieving more in the coming year.
