According to VG247, players of the game were quite disappointed as they paid to unlock the character for a very special and specific use. Not only this, but players also dealt with buying other features that will relate entirely to the character. Although fans were disappointed, Riot made an announcement saying, "Champion death is unprecedented in League of Legends, and we do not take it lightly. WE encourage all Gangplank fans to remain calm for a few days until we can fully assess the situation."

Riot also confirmed that they are not accepting requests for refunds for those who have purchased the character, but promised its users a rather rewarding end to the issue. Whether this is a way of attracting attention from users or not, the fact remains that the precious character has been killed and may need a strong storyline to pacify the fans about it.
Despite several additions to the roles and features of other characters, Riot Games still receive backlash over the killing of Gangplank. According to Kotaku, the city of Bilgewater characters has received new skins, a brand new version of the game's central maps and a new game mode that allows players to add secondary characters, such as mercenaries and monsters.
So what led to the killing of Gangplank? According to Kotaku, the reason he died is because of the act by act storyline that featured his death in act three. Gangplank was killed by Miss Fortune, a longtime rival in the game's storyline. Gangplank's death was made clear by the developer of the game by leaving a note on the "League of Legends" game saying, "Gangplank is dead and has been disabled in all queues." Along with the swift note is a reflection of Gangplank's death in the "League of Legends" written in some of the materials of the game. Miss Fortune, on the other hand, showed no remorse even stating, she's not done killing pirates yet.
