Xiaomi has regained its top spot in the Chinese smartphone market in the second quarter of 2015, outselling Huawei and Apple, according to a Canalys market survey.
In the second quarter of the year, around 16 percent of the smartphones sold in the Chinese market were Xiaomi brands.

However, Canalys researcher Jingwen Wang believes that Xiaomi will have a very difficult task holding on to its gain in the succeeding quarters
Another local smartphone manufacturer Huawei sold more than 15 percent for the same period. Although it only made second place, Huwaei smartphones sales grew by almost 50 percent from the previous periods. The research firm noted that Huawei is quickly becoming a favorite among Chinese smartphone users and it is a making a handsome profit in the process.
America's Apple and Korea's Samsung were only able to hold third and fourth place respectively. Apple was the preferred brand during first quarter of 2015 primarily due to the iPhone 6.
The number of Chinese consumers buying Apple's product in 2015 has increased by more than 100 percent compared to last year. Nonetheless, Apple's 2105 second quarter sales is more than 20 percent lower than its first quarter sales.
Apple and Samsung are aggressively promoting their product in China by opening more stores across the country.
A research firm called Counterpoint says the various smartphone manufacturers are fighting over China's shrinking market. A report by the firm pointed out that there are less smartphone buyers now compared to a year ago. The slowing down of China's economy, the range of smartphones available in the market and the lack of variation among the different brands has dampened consumer's interest for the latest smartphones.
In fact, most of the sold Xiaomi brands are the older models and not the latest LTE ones.
Xiaomi's marketing strategy involved the use of social media. This enabled the company to offer its smartphones online to tech savy, young consumers, while at same time keeping its overheads at the minimum. Xiaomi smartphones are usually powered by the latest Android system and are quite cheap.
