Just like Windows operating system, even Apple systems are prone to malware attacks. A group of researchers have exposed a vulnerability in MAC systems that will make it susceptible to hacks as this will allow hackers to take control of the system without the user even finding out what hit the system.

According to Independent, security researchers have come across a shocking vulnerability in MAC systems. Known as Thunderstrike 2, this Apple bug is capable of giving hackers access to the system without the knowledge of the user. What's even worst is that this bug will allow hackers to gain control of other systems. This revelation clearly shatters the misconception that MAC is a more secure operating system as compared to Windows.
Xeno Kovah, Trammell Hudson and Corey Kallenberg, the researchers involved in the project were able to hack into MAC systems using this bug, as confirmed by Tech Firstpost.
When the Thunderstrike (predecessor of the currently created worm) was introduced in the market, Apple was quick to respond to the problem and introduce a patch to solve it. This worm got into MAC systems by plugging in an infected accessory. The newly created version of this worm goes one step ahead. Users will no longer require an infected accessory to expose their system to the vulnerability as the new worm can be circulated through a harmless appearing link. The online accessibility of the worm further amplifies the threat.
The security researchers were able to demonstrate the aftermath of this bug in their experiment. The new bug directly attacks Apple's firmware which was long considered to be safe, due to the lock down procedures that the company is known to follow. Even detecting such threats is going to be a challenge because the regular security software does not scan the firmware. Additionally, even re-installing the system will not help in solving the problem. This bug could give the hackers life long control of the system making it even more dangerous.
On their part, the researchers claim to have informed Apple which has already started working on the process of introducing a patch.
