When Google wanted to replicate something familiar to Facebook, they created Google+, a unique social media portal; however, Google+ turned out to be a complete dud. In spite of its famed launch, the portal failed to live up to customer expectations and is most likely nearing its end. Given the situation, rumors are rife that Google will take over Twitter and pursue its mission once again. But, will this happen?

According to Fortune, Google's failed attempts with Google+ increases its chances of taking over Twitter. Though the idea of the take over would be to remodel the platform to suit its requirements. With Google+, the search engine giant hoped to compete with the likes of Facebook. Till date, Google continues to introduce variations to this platform in a bid to attract more members; however, as of now, nothing seems to be working positively. Additionally, the idea behind Google+ was not just competing with Facebook, but also getting access to real time user data that could help in boosting revenues. This makes Twitter an interesting target for acquisition.

Google and Twitter's association, if it happens, will not be new as the two companies have worked together in the initial phase of Twitter's launch; however, when Twitter grew and started to think on the lines of an IPO, Google withdrew its support.

The reason for the recent speculations of Google taking over Twitter have arisen after the latter's tweets have begun to flow through the Google search index, hinting at the possibility that the two could have actually buried the hatchet.

Even Twitter's competition with Facebook makes it a prime target for Google; however, another report on Recode contradicts this belief and says that Google already has things that it would gain from acquiring Twitter.

Recently, the two deals that Google has entered into, will allow it to run tweets through its search engine and also show the Twitter ads. While this spreads the popularity of Tweets, it also gives the viewers more reason to stick around to Google instead of departing to Facebook.
