Transportation Security Administration agents at Vermont's Burlington International Airport apprehended the former 007 star when they discovered the 10-inch, or 25-centimeter, knife in his hand luggage.
When Pierce Brosnan was halted at the airport Sunday by TSA officials, he was said to traveling with his son, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Images of the Sunday incident reportedly showed Brosnan removing his belt in the security area. There were also shots where he was talking to the airport staff as they questioned him about the knife.
One of the TSA rules is that sharp objects longer than 4 inches, such as scissors, box cutters and knives, cannot be hand-carried and must be stored on check-in baggage, according to the BBC.
Eventually, Brosnan was allowed to continue his travels as soon as the issue had been resolved, reported the local police department. According to Lieutenant Shawn Burke of the Burlington Police Department, airport authorities informed him of the incident where Pierce Brosnan was halted at airport.
The Irish actor "was encountered by TSA at one of their checkpoints," said Burke, adding that the knife was confiscated and that Brosnan was also given an extra patdown before authorities let him go.
Pierce Brosnan, who appeared as James Bond in four Bond movies, including GoldenEye and Die Another Day, has yet to comment on the incident. However, according to The Telegraph, the 62-year-old actor was embarrassed and angered when his knife was confiscated by the agents.
Last month, the "Mrs Doubtfire" and "Thomas Crown Affair" star visited Ireland posted on his Instagram account about the trip, reported The Guardian.
"Good bye my sweet home of Ireland that I can call you now after all these years abroad a wandering," he captioned his photo.
Pierce Brosnan's shot to fame was after he bagged the role of British secret agent James Bond in four films. His wife of eleven years, Cassandra Harris, died in 1991, leaving him with three children - Christopher and Charlotte from the first marriage of Charlotte, and Sean from their own marriage. Following Harris' death, Brosnan has had two children with second wife Keely Shaye Smith, according to IMDb.
