Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is the upcoming high-end and thinnest tablet to date, but there are some aspects Galaxy Tab S 8.4 which have not been upgraded in a closer look.

Display Screen Quality And Ratio

Both Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Galaxy Tab S 8.4 use Super AMOLED display type but the latter features a bigger screen size and screen-to-body ratio of 2.5 percent, according to GSM Arena. Another advantage of the previous Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is the pixel density of 359 ppi, about 39 ppi higher with better display resolution of 1600 x 2560 compared to 1536 x 2048 by Galaxy Tab S2 8.0.

Software Version And Upgrade

These tablets are running Android OS with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop as factory default on Galaxy Tab S2 8.0. On the other hand, Galaxy Tab S 8.4 runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat as default but can be upgraded to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. Each tablet enjoys Google's improvements such as lock screen notifications, new battery implementations via Project Volta and Android Runtime engine for smoother apps.

Processor, Memory And Storage

Based on the reports from Crossmap, Samsung used an octa-core processor for the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 but was not specific yet on which model. On the previous generation model, two variants have made it to the market with one having the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU while the other uses Samsung Exynos 5420 octa-core processor - 1.9 GHz quad-core and 1.3 GHz quad-core clock speeds. Both tablets boast 3 GB of RAM and support up to 128 GB microSD card. Latest model offers 32 GB and 64 GB internal storage variants while the previous has 16 GB and 32 GB available in the market today.

Front And Rear Cameras

If a user compares the cameras on these tablets, both offers 8 MP rear camera and 2.1 MP front camera lenses. Galaxy Tab S 8.4's front camera can record videos with 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second while the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0's can record 1440p at the same frames per second which means Samsung could have used a new camera sensor.

Battery Life

Samsung installed a 4000 mAh battery pack on Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 that is 900 mAh lower than Galaxy Tab S 8.4. Both are non-removable units with battery life extendable using native Power Saving technology included in the software.

There are no details yet of what features the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 will offer to interested users. Previous model offered several features such as Multi-Window for multitasking, SideSync 3.0 to connect the tablet and selected Galaxy smartphones, Adaptive Display for optimized screen viewing, Fingerprint Scanner, Download Booster to let Wi-Fi and LTE work together and Kids Mode to keep contents safe for children.
