Of late, Samung smartphones, of course powered by Android are increasingly becoming the target of hackers across the globe. In a bid to combat this challenge, Google and Samsung have decided to issue monthly updates to fix security bugs in the system. The plan has come into action, specifically after a prominent security researcher developed a new hacking software that will give hackers more power to tap into the sensitive data of the phone.

According to CNBC, after the disclosure of Stagefright, the new hacking software developed by security researcher Joshua Drake, Samsung is taking serious note of the security threat for its smartphones. The new bug gives access to hackers by allowing them to send a multimedia message to the users device.
Each time a user opens the message, the hackers get to crack into the device. From hereon, they get access to all the sensitive information in the users device. In a bid to help users tackle the security threat, Samsung and Google have decided to join hands and introduce security updates for the smartphones every month. In his statement, Android security chief Adrian Ludwig acknowledged the growing threat of hackers and also confirmed the plan of action to move fast in order to combat the problem.
Prior to this, Google followed a different process. Each time there is a flaw, Google would develop a patch and circulate it across Nexus phones. The other manufacturers would not fix the bug instantly, instead, they would wait for the time when they want to update the software. This in turn exposes the smartphone to more security threats. Ludwig also said that even the Android operating systems is regularly updated making it more powerful to combat possible hack attacks.
In addition to Google and Samsung, even LG has confirmed that it will be introducing monthly updates to maximise the protection for the end user, as confirmed in a report on Wired. Meanwhile, in another related news piece, reports said that one of the highest causing of people falling prey to hack attacks is because they often choose to download apps from illegal websites.
