The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly trying to steal away veteran shooting guard Jason Terry from the Houston Rockets as the team is in search of much-needed experience and outside shooting, according to CBS Sports.

If things went according to the Pelicans' plans, the 16-year pro will join another NBA vet with championship experience, Kendrick Perkins, in the lineup.
Terry had been rumored to return to Dallas this year, but when DeAndre Jordan backed out of his promise and decided to stay with the Los Angeles Clippers, the speculations died down. Instead, he seemed sure of staying with the Rockets this coming season, but reports went out that Houston's offer was financially "insufficient" for the 2009 NBA Sixth Man of the Year.
The former Arizona standout, who was a member of the Mavericks 2011 NBA Championship team, had experienced a resurgence since his arrival at Houston from Brooklyn in 2014. His stats were not the way they used to be three years ago, but his significance on and off the court had been integral for the Rockets especially in their playoff run last season.
Terry started at point guard in all of Houston's postseason games this spring after resident playmaker Patrick Beverley was sidelined in March. The 37-year-old unexpectedly played like a man possessed, effectively guarding the likes of Monta Ellis, Chris Paul, and Steph Curry. He also provided outside sniping that enabled to free up Dwight Howard inside and created some space for James Harden to drive.
After his incredible performance during the recent playoffs, when he averaged 9.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 28.6 minutes per night as the starting point guard, his stock went high and several became interested in the 6-foot-2, 185-pound sweet shooter, and one of them is New Orleans.
Sporting News indicated that Terry is seriously considering the Pelicans proposal as he was not pleased with what the Rockets had offered him to come back. With Houston's recent acquisition of Ty Lawson from Denver, Kevin McHale may have felt that he was already dispensable to the roster.
News Everyday said that the Rockets may have offered Terry the veteran's minimum, which had not satisfied the NBA champion. The Pelicans reportedly can provide more because of their biannual exception.
