Despite the ongoing rehabilitation of his injured right foot, six-time NBA All-Star Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder is reportedly going to attend USA Basketball's three-day August minicamp in Las Vegas as he hoped to qualify for the final roster of the American squad competing in the Rio Olympics next year.

Bleacher Report indicated that while the 26-year-old small forward is still not in shape to participate in on-court drills and the Blue vs White Showcase Game on Thursday, the 2014 NBA MVP will be with the team on the court during practice on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Taking time on the court for light exercises is a positive indication of Durant's continuous healing and should not be a cause of concern for Thunder officials, players, and fans. With about two months to go before the start of the new season, his recovery is certainly right on schedule.

In the first injury-plagued season of his career, Durant only played 27 games for Oklahoma City last year, averaging 25.4 points (his lowest since his sophomore year), 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in almost 34 minutes per game.

Team physicians spotted a Jones fracture in Durant's right foot in October last year, which gave him so much discomfort and caused his in and out availability for the Thunder. In March, he decided to undergo surgery to completely relieve the pain.

Durant went through a third procedure in April to ensure that the injury will be totally repaired, and after four months he is still in the process of rehabbing his foot.

USA Today reported that USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo was adamant that only the players who are present in this month's minicamp will be eligible in the final roster of the team to compete in the 2016 Olympics. This is the reason why ailing athletes such as Durant and Cleveland Cavaliers' Kevin Love had expressed their desire to participate in the camp even while they are in the middle of recovery.

Even with their injuries, Durant and Love were included by Colangelo in the 34-man Team USA pool last week, as per SB Nation. Notable exclusions in the list are the Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose and Portland Trailblazers' Damian Lillard.
