An astronomical study presented in Hawaii on Monday confirmed that the universe is slowly fading away by comparing the amount of energy present during its early years against the current time line.
The ESO Organization reported that scientists of the Galaxy and Mass Assembly Project (GAMA) used numerous, powerful telescopes to measure the amount of energy emitted by more than 200,000 galaxies in the known universe. The results are all the same: there are far less energy present in those galaxies in contrast to a few billion years ag.

Some of the powerful equipments used include the Paranal Observatory telescopes located in Chile. NASA and Euro space telescopes were also used to back up the energy output computation.
GAMA team leader Simon Driver said that they were able to confirm their findings by taking the wavelength measurements of the 21 known types of energy such as infrared and ultraviolet.
Scientists theorized that the universe's energy originated from the Big Bang which occurred billions of years ago. A substantial part of that energy is now part of the stars which converts it back to pure energy by the light they emit. This concept is supported by Albert Einstein's world-renowned formula: E=mc².
Driver explains that the energy will then be carried by space dust traveling around the universe and transferred to a planetary body or other stars.
The energy emitted in the universe mostly comes from billions of stars through nuclear fusion. Black holes also provide massive amounts of energy by converting gravity to other forms such as radiation.
The concept that the universe is dying bit by bit has been accepted as a fact by many scientists for more than two decades. But the recent study presents more detailed data, revealing that all forms of energy in the universe are slowly disappearing.
Driver said that the universe is basically getting older and it is only a matter of time before it fades away forever.
GAMA scientists are refocusing their effort on measuring the total energy produced by the universe in its entire lifetime.
