Spontaneous singing can be one heck of an annoyance, but when it's done right, it can be amazing.

The cast of the Broadway adaptation of "The Lion King" had a surprise for some weary subway passengers on a train leaving 59th Street, Columbus Circle station. The Tony award-winning cast belted out one of the most memorable songs of both the film and theater versions of "The Lion King" - "The Circle of Life".

The video, which was uploaded on YouTube, quickly gained more than 1.5 million views. The subway show was shot on June 28, between shows, and uploaded on August 5.

Cast member Jamal Lee Harris posted the performance on YouTube, captioning it with, "last year, the NYC subway served over 1 billion riders, and last year, 'The Lion King' became Broadway's first $1 billion show."

At first, cast members pretended to be average passengers on the train. Some were talking to each other, reading books, checking their mobile phones and standing up and watching other riders on the train.

Then, the singing started. So of course, the immediate reactionary thing people did was film the impromptu performance with their cellphones.

While other passengers appreciated the show and even sang along, some pretended they weren't hearing anything, while others became annoyed and put their earphones on to drown out the singing.

The said performance comes after another surprise show by the Australian cast of "The Lion King" on a flight from Brisbane to Sydney last April.

"The Lion King" was originally released in 1994 by Walt Disney Pictures as an animated musical. The movie garnered two Academy awards and a Golden Globe.

Later on, Walt Disney Theatrical produced a theater version of the film which premiered in Minneapolis, Minnesota in July 1997. In October 1997, the musical opened on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre.

The critically-acclaimed Broadway musical is currently being shown at The Minskoff Theater in Times Square.
