The Nirvana frontman was able to release three albums with the famous rock group while still alive. The new Kurt Cobain posthumous solo album is however the first ever solo material from the legend to be released and made available to fans, reported The Huffington Post.

According to Universal Music's announcement, the new Kurt Cobain posthumous solo album, which is yet to be titled, will be featuring not only all of the music in "Montage of Heck," but as well as "audio montages," "a dozen additional tracks" recorded by Kurt and a comedy sketch routine, according to Gigwise.

Brett Morgen, who directed the biopic, said that before he found the materials for the new Kurt Cobain posthumous solo album, he had to dig through more than 107 cassette tapes with over 200 hours of recordings left by Cobain following his death, according to The Inquisitr. As he did research for "Montage of Heck," Morgen said he stumbled across the new materials which included the sketch comedy routine which featured Kurt's voice in all characters," some unreleased music and the "audio montages" Kurt made.

"It was clear we were sitting on a treasure chest of unheard Cobain gems," said Morgen.

Morgen told Billboard that it is his hope that the Kurt Cobain posthumous solo album will make listeners "feel as though one were sitting in Kurt's living room watching him create over the course of an afternoon".

He added that the album also offers "a lighter portrait of Kurt than one might expect. You really get a sense of how happy he was simply by creating himself."

"His lyrics are really playful, and, at times, you can feel his smile and warmth coming through," Morgen also said. "I think they further our understanding of Kurt, both as a musician and as a man."

Morgen started making "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" in 2007 after Kurt's widow, Courtney Love, reportedly approached him with the idea. In order to make the film, Cobain's family gave the director full access to all of Kurt Cobain's archives when he died. The film is amazingly the first film about Kurt Cobain where his family, which includes wife Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean, cooperated. Bean also acted as the film's executive producer.

"Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" made its premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival with a limited theatrical release. In May, HBO aired it as well. Now, fans can watch the film anytime they want with their own copy when the DVD and Blu-ray versions of the film are released in Nov., together with the Kurt Cobain posthumous solo album.
