This time, they also announced that Tim Burton's 2010 film will be followed by the sequel entitled "Alice Through The Looking Glass," HitFlix reported. They also revealed two of its movie posters have the tagline read as: "It's time for a little madness" and feature Mad Hatter and Alice. Both of the said posters were credited to Walt Disney Studios and can be seen on the movie's IMDb information as well.
The teaser for "Alice Through The Looking Glass" were also revealed at the D23 Expo. As described by Slash Film, the teaser showed that Alice and some of the characters were seen on the boat to visit a "peculiar" character.
Additionally, actress Mia Wasikowska (Alice) also shared a glimpse of what the viewers should expect for the movie. According to IGN, something bad will happen to Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp). Hence, her character will go to a time travel journey that will lead to a discovery about Hatter's madness.
Aside from Wasikowska and Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway will be reprising their roles as the White Queen and the Red Queen respectively. Voice cast members Timothy Spall, Michael Sheen, Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman are reportedly back in the movie as well.
Meanwhile, new characters will be introduced on the upcoming film. Rhys Ifans will be playing Zanik Hightopp, also known as Mad Hatter's father while Sacha Baron Cohen will be portraying a bizarre half-human and half-clock creature known as Time.
Notably, there are some changes regarding its production team. "The Muppets" and "Muppets Most Wanted" helmer James Bobin will be replacing Tim Burton on the director's chair. Burton will be producing the sequel together with Joe Roth, IMDB noted. The screenplay is written by Linda Woolverton.
While much of its plot is still unknown, we still have to wait for further news regarding its development.
"Alice Through The Looking Glass" will kick off in cinemas on May 27, 2016.
