The Associated Press is in the middle of a social media outrage after its tweet about the trial of Renisha McBride's murderer.

McBride, 19, was an African-American who crashed her car in the suburbs of Detroit in November. She was intoxicated, unarmed and sought help from the people living in the neighborhood, authorities said.

McBride reached the front door of Theodore Wafer, 55, who reached for shotgun and fired it at her, later claiming that he thought she was dangerous.

Wafer stood trial for second-degree murder, manslaughter and gun-related charges. He received a guilty verdict on Thursday.

In a tweet by AP regarding the verdict, it stated, "MORE: Suburban Detroit homeowner convicted of second-degree murder for killing woman who showed up drunk on porch."

The tweet was immediately deleted by AP after it drew outrage from other Twitter users who were able to read it.

People were infuriated that AP would "dehumanize" McBride and refer to her as a drunk instead of the murder victim that she was.

AP revised the tweet and later posted another one which said "Jury convicts Michigan man in killing of unarmed woman on his porch (rewords language from previous tweet)."

The AP tweet is not the first from the news outlet that garnered a social media outrage. It had several previous tweets regarding the Gaza bombings that enraged its Twitter followers.

In one of its tweets, the news agency said, " School in Gaza hit, 15 dead; kids go missing, no reports made; Ticket me Elmo in #AP10Things."

In an interview with Pontyer, AP spokesperson Paul Colford said the recent series of miswritten tweets have led to a review in their process.

Meanwhile, there are reports claiming that the McBride trial received minimal media coverage, until several activists used social media to give the story the attention it deserved.

Wafer is white and McBride is of African-American descent, which is why many are speculating that McBride's murder is a case or racism.
