She's only 18 years old but Belinda Bencic is already a strong contender for greatness on the WTA Tour. On Sunday at the Rogers Cup, she dismantled second seed Simona Halep in three tight sets to bag her first Premier 5 title and second WTA tournament trophy for the year.

Coached by Melanie Monitor, the mother of 5-time grand slam champion Martina Hingis, Bencic entered the finals with impressive wins over Eugenie Bouchard, fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki, former Wimbledon Finalist Sabine Lisicki, fifth seed Ana Ivanovic and world no. 1 Serena Williams. And in the Sunday showdown, she continued her dominance to slow down an ailing Halep who bowed out at 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 3-0 due to cramps, heat exhaustion and a left leg injury.

"I don't think I'm so good at speeches yet!" said Bencic during the trophy presentation. "But first I want to congratulate Simona on a great week, and my mom, my dad and my team. And my fitness coach - I really needed my fitness today! And also Melanie Molitor, my coach - a big thank you to you too. And of course a big thank you to all the crowd. You were amazing in every match this week. It's just been such a special tournament, and I'll never forget it - I can't wait to come back next year."

The victory makes Bencic the first teenager to win a Premier 5 level event since Victoria Azarenka captured the Miami crown in 2009. According to the WTA website, the Swiss is also the first unseeded player to defeat the top two seeds at a big event since Justine Henin's 2005 Charleston victory.

"It's like I cannot believe it, and it's amazing," said Bencic as reported by CBC Sports. "I have no words for this, and definitely talk about a tough draw."

After calling for a trainer twice and returning to the match with a bandaged leg, Halep ran out of steam and shook her opponent's hand after 2 and a half hours on court.

''I was thinking that I need a miracle to finish the match,'' said Halep according to Yahoo! Sports. ''I knew that I had no power, so I tried just to finish the match, but at 3-0 I said there is no sense to continue and I stopped.''

Next up for both players is the Western & Southern Open, also a Premier 5 event held in Cincinnati. The draw will see all the WTA Top 10 players including Maria Sharapova who is returning to tournament play after an injured right leg.
