When Facebook introduced a strict character limits on its status updates, users had to bid adieu to the Notes feature. Once discarded as a vestige of the social media portal, the Notebook feature is now making a comeback, of course in a revamped design.

Once discarded as a vestige of the social media portal, the Notebook feature is now making a comeback on Facebook in a revamped design in order to help Facebook earn more loyalty amongst competitors. The feature has already made a silent arrival on accounts in several parts of the world.

According to Wired, social media portal Facebook is all set to bring back Notebook, the feature that it had happily removed many years ago. This was done specifically because the customers had no use of it when the portal introduced a compulsory character limit on the posts being uploaded by the users.

Since November 2011, Facebook has imposed an upper limit of 60,000 on the number of characters that the users can rely on. The major advantage of this feature will be that users will now be able to type bigger posts instead of being restricted by the character limit.

Another related report on Fortune points out that Facebook's Notebook could be the company's latest attempt to combat the competition from Medium and Linkedin. While Linkedin is the professional networking site, Medium is a blogging portal introduced by former Twitter CEO Evan Williams when he moved out of the company.

Notebook was launched originally in 2006 but was discarded a long time back, which has led to many users thinking of it as a new feature. But for those who have been long time loyalists of Facebook, Notebook is an old package in a new wrapping. On its part, Facebook has confirmed that it is working on the new project and will make an official announcement soon.

Meanwhile, Facebook's Notebook is rumored to offer a similar feel when compared to Medium. This is once again an effort by Facebook to motivate people to publish all types of content on the platform and gradually increase its popularity.
