Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden had finally taken first team reps in the team's Monday night practice with the St. Louis Rams and owner Jerry Jones is reportedly ecstatic about seeing his 27-year-old steal from the Oakland Raiders do his "thing" on the field.

"McFadden hit that thing for the first time up in there and showed some real stuff, and he sure showed some real burst in a couple of drills where they weren't just full tackling," Jones said in a radio show guesting, as reported by the Dallas Morning News. "Boy, if we can keep him out there, he'll tear their 'you know what' up."

Jones and the Cowboys acquired the former Arkansas standout in March this year after he was waived by the Raiders due to nagging injuries and the emergence of their own sophomore back fielder Latavius Murray.

Dallas signed McFadden to a two-year contract worth $5.85 million and the North Little Rock native had not yet seen on-field action for the Cowboys until the practice session with the Rams on Monday. He was just coming off the PUP list where he had been most of training camp due to his recurring hamstring injury.

McFadden conducted first team reps again during team practice on Tuesday and had a couple of touchdowns after "showing impressive burst", as reported by the league's official website.

The two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up had fully enjoyed first-team time these days as his rival for the Cowboys' starting job, Joseph Randle, is currently out because of an oblique muscle strain. Third-stringer Lance Dunbar is also still recuperating from an ankle sprain that sidelined him since early August.

Meanwhile, USA Today's Jarrett Bell indicated that Dallas' running back competition will all boil down to "trust, health, and performance" even though head coach Jason Garrett always said that their backfield would be a committee attack involving all three of his RBs.

Bell cited that Randle's off-field problems, such as shoplifting arrests and drug issues, had hindered him from being declared as the Cowboys' indisputable starter this coming season, saying that the management needs to feel that they can rely on him to always be available during games.

Dunbar is more likely set as the second man off the bench in the position, but McFadden's injury, and now Randle's, has made it difficult for Garrett to come up with a final decision.
