"Beverly Hills 90210" star Shannen Doherty revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The unexpected revelation followed legal actions the actress was taking against her business manager and accounting firm Tanner, Mainstain, Glynn & Johnson.

Doherty claims Tanner failed to make her health insurance payments resulting to the insurance firm cancelling her account leaving her unable to receive medical care, People reported.

In her lawsuit, she further alleged that it was at the time when her insurance lapsed that she had also started to develop cancer. But without proper medical check-ups it hadn't been discovered and treated until last March when she had finally renewed her health insurance plan.

"Yes, I have breast cancer, and I am currently undergoing treatment," Doherty told People in an interview.

Now, Doherty claims in the lawsuit that she is required by doctors to undergo more invasive treatment to stop the spread of her cancer. Something they could have more easily treated with proper insurance in place.

"I am continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life," she added in the interview.

The 44-year-old actress also pointed out that she had paid Tanner 5% of her earnings in exchange for helping her manage her finances, but instead they had pocketed the money and ignored her insurance payments, E! Online reported.

After finally being able to visit her doctor Doherty, 44, was told she had, "invasive breast cancer metastatic to at least one lymph node," the report said.

But while Tanner felt sorry about the actress illness and hoped she recovers fully, they also asserted in a statement that her claims that the firm had something to do with her inability to seek medical care and in some way contributed to her cancer is "patently false." It added that they will "aggressively" dispute all her claims.

Doherty is best known for her characters in TV shows "Charmed" and "Beverly Hills 90210."
