New York Knicks point guard Jose Calderon is reportedly being offered in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers for reserve forward Jamal Crawford.

Calderon is percceived as a more trustworthy backup point guard for the Clippers than either Austin Rivers or Pablo Prigioni, according to Clips Nation.

The Knicks acquired Calderon along with a few other player and draft picks for Tyson Chandler last summer. However, Calderon played only 42 games due to an Achilles injury.

When healthy, the 33-year-old averaged 9.1 points and 4.7 assists per game on a 41.5 percent shooting.

The Miami Heat is also said to be interested in acquiring the 35-year-old Crawford and could possibly give up Josh McRoberts, Chris Andersen or Mario Chalmers to get his services, according to Fox Sports.

McRoberts is a versatile power forward, Andersen is a proven rim protector aand Chalmers is a seasoned point guard.

However, it remains to be seen who between the two teams can come up with what the Clippers want as compensation.

Crawford struggled with injuries last season and had one of the worst shooting seasons with 39.6% from the field, 32.7% from beyod the arc.

If the Clippers were to pull agree on a Crawford-for-Calderon trade, the Spaniard could be the No. 2 point guard behind Chris Paul.

Calderon is still capable of running an offense and hitting from a distance. He has two years left on a deal he initially signed in 2013 with the Dallas Mavericks and will earn over $7 million per year through the 2016-2017.

Unless Rivers steps up by leaps and bounds, having Calderon would be an upgrade over him and Prigioni.

With the market for Crawford quickly drying up, the Clippers  are hard-pressed to get anybody better that Calderon.
