Authorities declared rescue operations to be successful on Sunday at Six Flags America in Maryland after 24 people got stuck on top of one of the theme park's roller coaster rides.

Two dozens theme park patrons were trapped 75 feet from the ground at the top of the Joker's Jinx coaster after it stalled at around 2:30 in the afternoon on Sunday.

The rescue operations, which lasted for almost five hours, were led by the Prince George County Fire Department and were monitored via video stream on ABC News.

Reports indicate that rescuers had difficulty accessing the coaster because of the location of the cars at the middle of the ride, and had to move several objects including fences in order to proceed.

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Gomez stated that rescue operations could have been done quicker if someone was injured, but firefighters preferred proceeding slowly in order to ensure the safety of the passengers.

The passengers were sitting upright when the coaster stopped in the middle of the ride. They were harnessed one by one during the rescue procedures.

There were no casualties reported during the incident and all of the passengers were brought down safely.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the theme park said that the reason the roller coaster stopped remains a mystery as the computerized system controlling it was functioning properly at the time.

Reports indicate that the coaster runs at a speed of 60 miles per hour and turns upside down a total of four times during the course of the ride. There are also several swift reversals, a cobra roll, a corkscrew swirl, and a sidewinder loop.

A similar incident happened at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles last month after the Ninja roller coaster derailed, leaving 22 passengers stuck on the ride for three hours.

Four minor injuries had been reported during the Magic Mountain derailment as people were suspended 40 feet aboveground.
