Marlene Pinnock, 51, reportedly beaten up by a police officer on the side of the freeway.

Marlene Pinnock, 51, reportedly beaten up by a police officer on the side of the freeway.

In her first appearance following the July 1 alleged police brutality incident, Marlene Pinnock shared her experience to the Associated Press on Sunday.

The issue erupted when a video of the incident surfaced in the internet. In the video, Pinnock, 51, was seen to have been pinioned by a California Highway Patrol Officer on the side of a Los Angeles freeway. The officer then began to continually punch Pinnock in the head.

"He grabbed me, he threw me down, he started beating me, he beat me. I felt like he was trying to kill me, beat me to death," Pinnock shared.

Accompanied by her lawyer Caree Harper, the victim revealed details of the alleged attack. In the interview, the homeless grandmother spoke in hoarse whispers.

According to Harper, Pinnock left the hospital last week. The victim was said to have been confined for several weeks following the alleged brutal beating. She underwent treatment for the head injuries she suffered from the purported attack. Apart from her wounds, Harper claims that her client now suffers from slurred speech.

Reports reveal that Pinnock is suing CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow and Officer Daniel L. Andrew for civil rights violations. In the complaint, Pinnock alleged that the suspects committed excessive force, assault, and battery. She also claimed that her due process rights were violated.

The actual officer captured on video was not identified by CHP. However, sources disclosed that he has been part of the police force for approximately a year and a half. At present, the unidentified officer is tasked with desk duties while internal investigation is ongoing.

In response to these allegations, Farrow divulged that the officer's actions were rooted from at least eight 911 calls received by the authorities that evening. The concerned callers were alarmed to see a seemingly disoriented woman walking aimlessly along the shoulder of the freeway.

The woman was later identified as Pinnock. According to Farrow, the police officer was merely attempting to hold back the victim from hurting herself or inflicting harm to others.

The video, which was captured by David Diaz, a passing motorist, went viral as social media users and the public expressed outrage over the violence inflicted on Pinnock.

"This is a grown man punching to the point where she could have died out there," Diaz stated in an interview with KNBC 4.
