Carly Rae Jepsen, the singer most known for the chart topper "Call Me Maybe," is widening her artistic horizons through her latest album called "Emotion," released last week.

Jepsen recently performed for a crowd in New York's Rockafeller Center plaza, where she took the chance to reinvent herself by singing new tracks from her 80's music-inspired album, Emotion. While the singer is yearning for a new image and possibly a new kind of reception from her listeners, it didn't stop the pop sensation from belting her most famous tune, "Call Me Maybe" during the set.

With the backing of pop prince, Justin Bieber, Jepsen's famous track gained popularity in 2012, topping the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for nine weeks in the summer it was released. After launching the song, Jepsen went on to receive a Grammy award nomination and 700 million YouTube views, as well as 7.6 million downloads, as recorded by Nielsen Soundscan, as reported by USA Today.

With the new album, the Canadian songstress is looking for a new reputation.

"It's normal for people to define you by one thing. The trick is to not believe that yourself. None of us are just one thing - how boring would that be? - so I'm really excited to feel like I have shaken that off for myself," said Jepsen, in an interview published by USA Today.

Emotion marks the singer's second U.S. release, and the album went through a tough editing process. The singer had to narrow down picks from 200 songs written over the past three years.

"I wanted to able to take my time making an album that felt like every song was there for a reason and had a vital place," added the singer in the same interview.

Jepsen added that she was on a mission to take herself off from being labeled as a "one hit wonder," and it looks like her hard work is paying off. Reviews for Emotion have been positive, even being tagged by Time as the "current frontrunner for pop album of the year." New York Magazine compared Emotion to Taylor Swift's 1989 and described it as "better" in terms of effort, which is a feat considering Swift's reign over pop music.

Still, Jepsen remains humble and approachable in terms of attitude and makes sure to keep in touch with her childish side.

"I don't know, I'm pretty geeky. I just told you about Homeward Bound 2 being my go-to movie as a child," said the singer.
