Scientists have discovered a way to present a graphical data that changes over time as new information comes to light.

In a newly published scientific paper in the journal Popular Science, one graph remains static, but once the author decides to add new information regarding the study, the findings will be reflected on the graph.

The updated graph will also apply if other researchers decide to replicate the study; all of their findings will simultaneously be shown on the same graph.

The idea behind the continually updating graph was to make it easier for scientists to check and compare the data of a specific study, according to German geneticist Bjorn Brembs of the University of Regensburg.

Prior to the introduction of the graph, scientific journals also come with its corresponding online versions that has links with other studies in the same field. It also provides access to downloadable graphs and charts.

However, no one has yet published a paper with a graph that can be updated over time.

Brembs and co-author Julien Colomb from the Freie Universitat in Berlin, studied the behavior of Drosophila or fruit flies.

The two scientists ordered fruit flies of the Canton-Special strain to see If all the flies are genetically similar.

After Colomb and Brembs performed their experiments, they found out the Canton-Special strain that came from different laboratory suppliers have different reactions to the same tests performed.

The results further showed that if the fruit flies from the same lab were placed in different containers, it could also prompt in differences in its behavior.

If the finding of Brembs and Colomb are in fact accurate, this could prove to be a problem for all other experiments done on fruit flies worldwide.

Several other labs have agreed to replicate the study that Brembs and Colomb authored in order to determine whether the initial finding were correct.

Once the results are completed, it will be posted online and will instantly update the original graph to make comparisons more convenient.
